Is this also possible by implementing this by an IP address instead of vm name?

Yes, I only have  one Hard disk 1 = Virtual disk, no Mapped Raw LUN.

But this still leaves me confused, why can't Converter back it up?  Why my error?

VMware Tools 10.1 and Tools status showing unsupported

I downloaded the latest VMware Tools 10.1 and updated one of our ESXi servers with the software.  When I vMotioned a VM to the server with the new tools the VMware Tools Version Status showed as unsupported.  I updated the tools and rebooted the VM and it now says Current, but why would it say unsupported?  I was expecting it to say out of date.

Desktop Pools appear in App Centre but not in My Apps

I have an existing Horizon 6.2 environment with a number of Windows 7 & 10 Pools. I have deployed IDM v2.71 and have joined it to AD, and added the View Pools.

All of the AD Groups for the entitlements to View Pools are successfully synced, and the View Connector now shows the desktop pools and their entitlements for users in the Workspace One portal App Centre.

the pools are configured for 'Automatic', however they are not being added (and cannot seem to be added) to 'My Apps'

It feels like i am very close to getting it working, but something is not configured correctly

Thanks in advance

Re: VIO 3.0 - Glance Issues Post Deployment

Just an FYI for anyone stuck on the Glance or any other Post-Deploy task that is giving non-helpful errors:

Go to the ansible script for the task that is failing. There should be a parameter for no_log = true on these tasks. Change this to no_log = false and when you rerun the post deploy it will give you actual errors.

For this particular issue Im facing, I now see the following:

Need to figure out how/why/where the image is coming from and why its not working.

Workstation Pro 12: When showing 1280 x 1024 resolution VM on a 1920 x 1080 host in full screen mode, VM does not fully stretch as it did in Workstation 8.

I have a Windows 7 PC.  I had VMware Workstation 8 and recently upgrade to VMware Workstation 12 Pro.

When using Workstation 8 in full screen mode, I could stretch my Windows 7 Guest VM set at 1280 x 1024 (4:3 aspect ratio) on my 1920 x 1080 monitor without changing my host resolution (currently set to 1920 x 1080).  This stretch would fill the entire screen with the Guest VM.

In Workstation 12, the aspect ratio is being enforced and I am ending up with black borders on either side of my VM and it is  not filling the screen as it should.  The VM itself was upgraded to only be compatible with Workstation 10.x because many of my colleagues are at that version yet.

Is there some setting somewhere that will allow the VM to fully stretch as it used to?

Thanks

Hi RDPetruska,

Thanks for this information.  I had tried what you said, but I added an additional virtual NIC.  This time I'll try with just the one NIC you saw in the settings image I sent you.

I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks again.

How to change GuestInfo

0

Hi All,

I use one template to build both RHEL 6 and 7 with ISO. The template has Guest identifier as RHEL 7 so all the VMs in vCenter show as rhel 7. I am not sure which property to set during the build in the workflow to set it to correct guestinfo. Other option is to use different templates for different OS.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

First, I would disable all your pools for at least a week. This will allow you to confirm that you have moved all your users over to the new environment. Also you have entitled everything as expected. If you missed something, it would be easy to still review your old environment to correct those missed configurations.

I would also disable provisioning (recompose) and shutdown and/or delete most of the VMs in each pool to free up resources. Don't delete all the VM's in a pool or you will lose your replication VM and have to recreate, if you ever have to power on a VM to confirm settings.

Then after your period of time, you determine, do the following;

  1. Delete all the Desktop Pools from the View Admin console (Don't want to orphan the replication and VMs)
    • If you don't any other way, you will be doing a lot of manual deleting via vCenter and SSH.
  2. Shutdown all server VMs and delete.
  3. If DBs are on the same DB server as the new environment
    1. Backup the DBs
    2. Delete the DBs
    3. Run maintenance on the DB server to get peak performance

I'm sure I'm missing something, but this should help you think of other tasks that may need to be done for your environment.

Hope this helps.

Re: CPU based license ...

Hey Mike,

CPU licensing is used with ESXi. Basically, you license the CPUs on your ESXi host and you get to collect logs from the ESXI host (i.e. hypervisor) as well as every VM running on that host. If you add/remove VMs there is no impact to the license. If you add/remove ESXi hosts then there is impact to the license. Does this answer your question?

Re: UEM Logon Tasks - Blocked by a Lock Screen?

From the little I just read about Imprivata, I am curious if it changes the default shell? What do this key values have?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon (Shell)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon (Shell)

If it is not explorer.exe, this might be preventing the tasks. You might be able to prevent the default lock by changing it back to explorer.exe. Id be interested to hear what you find.

data domain checkpoint restore

I did a data domain restore because we were updating from VDP 6.0 to 6.1.2 and the migration utility will not work currently, so in order to do a migration you need to do a Data Domain Checkpoint Restore, we followed it very closely in the documentation and we I also looked at this link, which describes what we did. But that problem that I am having is that we don't see any of our existing back up jobs nor restores. And we restarted VDP logged out of web client log back in, checked the plugin the new plug in is there we did a integrity check and still nothing coming up, what am I missing?

Re: LI 3.6 - Windows Agent - Cannot exclude default Channels

Hey Steve,

It looks like you are experiencing three different issues. Let me start with the issue reported in your first message. It sounds like you are trying to create a custom agent group for your application and starting by trying to clone an existing agent group. Tip 1 would be, if the agent group you are cloning does not have the configuration you want do not clone it. Instead, just create a brand new agent group. When you do this, you can use the build tab on the lower part of the page and fill in the relevant sections to build your custom agent group. Now, in your case, you cloned an existing agent group, made some edits and tried to save. The error states that the names of the configuration sections are already in use and as such the save operation fails -- as seen in your screenshot. This means, you have another agent group configuration enabled on the system with the same exact configuration section names -- this is not allowed. You can verify this by selecting the "Microsoft - Windows Test (not saved)" drop-down, and selecting one of the other agent configurations you have enabled. To work around this issue, do what the message says -- rename the configuration sections to something else. For example, you have "[winlog|Application]" call it "[winlog|Application2]". Now this will solve your problem, however you already stated you do not want to collect the default Microsoft event viewer channels so I would again advise you just create a brand new agent group and use the builder.

Moving on to your second post, you switched to client-side configuration. Tip 2 would be, always use server-side configuration. There are many reasons for this including server-side overriding client-side, configuration management, etc. In your case, you edited the client side and checked liagent-effective.ini (good!). You are correct that you disabled the default channels, however the win2012 configuration sections DO apply. Why? "[winlog|com.microsoft.active-directory.win2012_DNS_Server_Audit]" is of the format "[winlog|<name of configuration section>]" sure the name of the configuration section has win2012 in it, however if that is not defined as part of the agent group filters server-side (clearly it is not as you see it on your Windows 2008 system) then it will still collect. Also, given that the name of the configuration section starts with com.microsoft.active-directory, I now know that you do have the AD agent group configured server-side. You should edit the server-side configuration since you have made it clear you do not want this.

Finally your third issue -- I think something else is going on, but there is not enough information to tell. Can you attach the liagent-effective.ini?

My apologies on all the problems you are experiencing -- I hope we can work this out for you quickly.

Re: Insane high OSI count, despite actual # OSI's being well below 100

Yes, this is normal. LI licenses based on the hostname field (the originator of the message) not the source field (the last hop before reaching the LI server). The reason for this is because the source may be a syslog aggregator, an external LB or even a NAT. Per the syslog RFC, the hostname field is the originator of the message. In the case of View, unfortunately, the logs put the VM in the hostname field even though they did not originate the message. A potential solution to this problem is to have the VM be the source and the View component be the hostname, but at the end of the day this is a View logging bug. I would suggest opening this on the View forum, but I will will escalate this on my end as well.
